I was there in 1960 aboard the USS VALCOUR AVP 55.The island Mahe is from 2 to 7 miles wide and 17 miles long ,there was one loop road of dirt and sand ,with very few cars. The highest point is 2993 ft covered in palm trees.IF I'm correct there are no snakes of any kind. The weather is tropical and the island is outside the hurricane zone. The salt water for some reason is not as salty. It's is a Paradise to visit.I always said that I would return ,but it never happened. The island people were very poor, mostly Black natives but also very friendly. The entire Seychelles consist of 92 islands and lore has it that Captain Cook evaded the English by hiding in the maze of islands. Also there is suppose to be a treasure buried on the far side of the island by Cook. When I was there ,on the beach side ,which is just marvelous, glorious and breath taking, had a area that was used to protect giant tortoises 600 lbs and believed to live 200 yrs.GO, you will never regret your choice of vacation there.I wonder if Sharkie's bar is still there at Clarke Club Hotel???Also beware not to step into those open trenches along the road they are raw sewage.
