Many reasons why a baby cries: hungry/thirsty, too cold, lonely, tummy ache, tired, wants to be picked up/cuddled, diaper needs changing. Babies let you know that they want/need something and sooner or later you should be able to tell their different cries apart.
By the way, it is not true that by picking up a baby often, you will spoil him/her. There's no such thing as spoiling an infant. They need love and attention. If you let them cry for too long, they will feel neglected.

Well it could be a couple of reasons why your baby is crying.. check her diaper, feed her (it wont hurt her to feed her more) or play with her maybe she's bored and need some attention. Or maybe she is tired and needs to get some sleep... or it could be colic-hope not but thats also an option if none of the above work, feeding, changing the diaper or playing with her then I would take her to the doctor and see if she has colic or whats wrong. Just keep in mind something is wrong and dont take it out on her. Her only form of communication is thru crying so be patient and do your best... good luck~

Just incase your not implying anything else, let us say the diaper has been changed, the baby is clean, just been fed. A little bit of him or her lying on your chest to hear your heart beat just might work. That is the first sound they ever heard is the beat of their mothers heart beat, and or you could relax and cuddle her. They know when your not relaxed.
Now if it is the other thing think that the reward goes both ways.

Wow dad first off if baby is little pease do not overfeed i have a 3 month old son who is finally sleep sitting right next to me! Sometimes what i found that works after you have exauste the basics changing diapers feeding, maybe try bathing your baby with j&j bedtime bath stuff and than try swaddling in a warm blanket sometimes babies need that close contact or sometimes if it is very noisy they can become over stimulated try taking baby in a quiet room and dim lights give him or her a bobo if they take one an gently rock to sleep goodluck i hope i was able to help!!
