At 10 years old he should only be doing basic excerises mostly of the stretching variety. If he wants to improve his pitching or batting power then the focus needs to be on his mechanics. Proper footwork and positioning will make him better. Fundamentals are far more important than strength, particularly at his age. Lifting weights, doing strength and power excerises at 10 will more likely lead to injuries and/or permanent damage and there wont be any baseball for him by time he reachs high school. Send him to a baseball camp or a hitting school (hitting schools also teach pitching, at least proper form at his age). These are almost always run by former professional baseball players or instructors and they take safety very seriously. He already has one of the most important things it takes to be a good ball player...determination & dedication, dont risk that by doing something foolish.Good luck!

At ten, hitting isn't a power game but a hand - eye coordination skill. Pitch to him, let him hit lots of balls - not just strikes, but try to hit everything. The reason for this is to develop the skill of putting the bat on the ball. In the later part of the batting drill, have him concentrate on hitting strikes only. Develop the eye in the latter drills.

For pitching, I would have him throw but keep it to no more than 100-120 pitches a day. His arm is still developing and you don't want to hurt that arm. Stay away from curve balls - that and other pitches that require a twisting motion on release should be taught at 14 or 15. I've seen too many kids get hurt trying to throw stuff too early. He needs to throw strikes. Curveballs, sliders, whatever need to find the plate.

Start weight training at about 14, then only work on general strength activities. Beware of specific exercises to build throwing muscle groups - just working on these tends to do more hard than good. Something you can do now is get some hand grips and have him strengthen his hands. But keep this low key and just make it a game.

By the way, the pushups and sit ups are fine.

The best thing a 10 year old can and should do is practice, play catch every day,not to the point of exaushion but throw about 100 times. Also go to the batting cages as much as possible, its not as good as live pitching but it will let him get his swings in

for pitching, start with long toss and then move up to a weighted ball, and get him doing squats with weights, until he can squat his own weight or more. batting, the squats are also important. form is essential. You can be lazy and hit a 300-footer if your form is correct. get his knees on a straight line from his feet to his shoulders. keep his shoulders square to home and the bat parrallel to his shoulders, while his left hand extends out above his left foot, and his right elbow comes down to his belt. then have him turn his shoulders and bring the bat around at the exact same time. start the drill slow, and then work him up to doing it quickly. My coach was two weeks from the MLB draft when he broke his wrist, and he had a real good shot of making it. trust me, he knows what he's talking about. p.s. this is for a right-handed hitter, if he's left handed just switch the words for right and left.

Basic exercies are best. Lifting minimal weights to tone up should be good. Lifting heavy weights to bulk up will do more damage than good. Bulk will decrease range and movement of the upper body. Just practice hitting and throwing regularly. Don't overdo it such that the body tires. You build strength and endurance thru practice. Practice accurancy more so than speed. Hitting power isn't as important as consitency. Learn to hit for average. Pitching accurancy is far more important than speed. With time and growth, the speed and power will come provided the talent and abilities are there.

Okay first every child has heard of the human centipede so many say that they've watched it when they got freaked by the trailer. It's not suitable for a child of 10 it's an 18 for a reason. And it may affect your child's mental health state and development more than you may think. I wouldn't recommend anyone watch it let alone a 10 year old
