Where did the term "Jack Squat" come from?

I think it's a euphemism for "jacksh-t"
So now the question is, where did THAT phrase come from?

"Jack" is anonymous man; clearly English derivative. "Squat" is the act of relieving yourself. Consequently the expression denigrates the value of a thing to worthlessness.
