An inhabitant of Pompeii in the years before Vesuvius erupted, one Umbricius Scaurus, traded in the (rather foul) fermented fish sauce beloved by the Romans called garum. He had a business stamp which he placed on the pots used to transport the sauce and which can be seen on a mosaic in the remains of his house in excavated Pompeii. This business stamp has also been seen on pots discovered as far away as Fos-sur-Mer which was in ancient Gaul. So something akin to a logo was being used 2000 years ago
