Given the way things have been and the way things are, I would consider a foreigner to preside over the government in the Philippines.

I won't let pride get in the way of solving the problems that now seem chronic in the Philippines. Too many people suffer needlessly due to incompetence and greed.

I won't blindly go about this, of course. I will consider a candidate's intentions, wisdom, scope of knowledge, strength and his/her circle of support.

Ramon Magsaysay's quote was appropriate for those times they went through while he was alive. The Philippines cannot afford to be narrow-minded. We have to think of what's best for the poor, suffering masses and the decline of society, culture and morals.

It's hard to believe Filipinos will ever be ready to govern themselves.
Their so called " peaceful revolution" was really a cowardly act---After the 20year rule of the ruthless Marcos, all they did was hide behind Nuns and Priests and beg Marcos and the rebel soldiers "please don't fight".
Even today, after many years w/ no industry, adequate electricity,or clean water, they allow their leaders to quibble over which ones are stealing the most.
I was there during their "peaceful revolution", and I asked one man why they did not rebel against this corrupt government, and he said:
"What can we do? They have guns."
There have been so many in other countries willing to fight for their freedom w/ sticks and stones and their bare hands, while a million Filipinos bow down when one man tells them to do so.

I believe in Filipinos running their own country. I have been there 12 times....dirt poor......corrupt....this was 79-81.

I hope they are getting on their feet. Unfortunately there are Islamo fascists causing trouble....they need to deal with that very firmly first.
