It was a good film but not as a learning tool. There were other issues about the civil war that were not addressed in glory. If you wanted learnig tools do a combo of both film and documentary.

Absolutely. It's a great film. Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman are outstanding. Also, Gettysburg, a Turner production (you can get it at Amazon) is also good. Gods and Generals is also a Turner film and gives an interesting view of Stonewall Jackson and the beginning of the Civil War. There really aren't too many good Civil War movies out there, I guess. An old version of "The Red Badge Of Courage" with Audie Murphy is pretty good, too. Avoid "Gone With The Wind' for historical value - fine film entertainment but terrible history.

It's a great film, and pretty accurate as far as I know.

I would strongly recommend Ken Burns' documentary series "The Civil War", though, for a thorough treatment of the conflict. The History Channel's "Civil War Journal" is also very fine.
