Flipping between alternate worlds, a talking wolf and a mother who is dying with only her son "Jackie-O" to save her is what the book "The Talisman", by Stephen King and Peter Straub is all about and it makes for some exciting reading that would easily translate to the big screen!

Jack has come to the east coast with his actress mother who is dying of cancer. As summer draws to a close Jack feels his mother fading along with the autumn leaves. Mother and son both know it's just a matter of time before winter steals in with it's deathly cold both outside and inside his mother. As Jack ponders his mother's fate he wanders to what appears a deserted amusement park. There he meets a man, Speedy Parker, who offers a hope that rests on Jack's young shoulders. Can he bear up under the burden of being his mother's hero?

Jack learns that he can "flip" in and out of an alternate earth, "The Territories", where his mother's "twinner" is a queen in trouble by a vile villian named Morgan Sloat who can also flip between the two worlds and wants to kill both women. To save both of their lives Jack must win the race across the continent to the west coast and a hotel called the Alhambra where the Talisman awaits.

On the trip Jack meets a talking wolf who flips with him into our world and is afraid of movies, is imprisoned in a boy's home by a cruel man named Sunlight Gardener, and befriends the son of the man who is trying to kill him. The final trip by train shows him horrors that could only be alive in the worst nightmares.

Stephen King and Peter Straub are both proven best sellers in their field. Stephen King has had multiple books made into high gross movies. I believe "The Talisman", would easily join that group as it appeals to the young, old and everyone in between.
