Minnesota is a very nice city. Clean and the people are polite. I went there one time and was walking downtown early one morning and three different people said Good Morning to me. WTF?

Chicago is not that expensive. You can get a one bedroom in a decent neighorhood for $600-900 and sometimes even cheaper. The bus and train goes everywhere and is only about $2, cheaper if you buy a transit card. There are a lot of small grocery stores that have quality food and are much cheaper than the big chain stores. And there are always dollar stores. Some people turn their nose up at them but look at it this way: Why go to Jewel and Dominicks and pay $2.50 for Reynolds Wrap when you can go to a dollar store and get the same thing for, well, a dollar? hell, even if you like to go out to bars and drink, you can do so on the cheap. Check out this website: http://chi.myopenbar.com/bars.php. It lists bars where you can drink for free or very cheaply every day of the week.

The job market in Chicago is not too hard to crack. Since the city is so big there are thousands of places looking for help and more open every day. For instance, there's a new 130,000 square foot shopping facility getting ready to open near Clybourn and Armitage and they're gonna need people to work there... voila! You may not start at the top, but if you're in a bind, you do what you have to.

I'd give Chicago a try.

Minnesota is a nice place to live. I lived in St. Cloud north of Minneapolis for 5 years. I moved back home to Michigan. The quality of life is better in Minnesota and I feel it is cleaner. Mpls is expensive, but not as much as Chicago. Mpls traffic is horrible. Don't be fooled. Not quite as bad as Chicago but it will give you a daily headache. There is an area called the "Fish Lake Interchange" and that is a huge bottleneck.
The mosquitos in Minnesota will pick you up and carry you away. I heard it but didn't believe it until I moved there. I still have some very close friends that live there and I typically travel back every summer to visit.
Much colder in the Winter. My last year there in January one morning the actual temp. was -43 below zero and the wind chill was -60 below.
Dry cold so it isn't as bad as it sounds.

hello, i have lived in minnesota most of my life (northern suburbs about 15 min out of minneapolis) and i just recently moved out here to chicago. it is slightly more expensive..not too much more but it does depend on where you live. i have a small apartment and i pay $800 per month..in minnesota i have a friend now who pays $775 for a 2 bedroom. so i guess that does make a difference but it could be worse! i miss the clean air of minnesota and the traffic...traffic is terrible down here in chicago! no matter what time of day it always feels like rush hour here, thank goodness i work so close to home! i plan on moving back to minnesota after i finish up school down here because i like it better overall up there. i do enjoy the big city life and all there is to do downtown here but it isnt too far from mn if i ever want to take a road trip it wouldn't be too far of a drive. minnesota is a little colder during the winter than chicago...lots more snow in minnesota, but chicago is definately more windy (hence the name "the windy city" ;) but the spring/summer/and fall in mn are beautiful. sorry this is getting long but i do hope this helps! take care!

Far cheaper than Chicago but colder. However it is really beautiful and the Twin Cities have many amenities. The north shore of Superior is absolutely breathtaking. I grew up in Minneapolis and spent most of my adult life there. Also lived outside of Chicago for a while as well. I live in Denver now, but there are still some things I really miss like the State Fair and the Renaissance Festival. Hope this helps - good luck with your decision.

Depends on where you live in Minnesota. Minneapolis/St Paul are small cities and relatively inexpensive. Remember that Minnesota is very cold - a lot colder than Chicago. Forget Duluth unless you like frozen streets - it's close to International Falls - one of the coldest spots in the nation.
