My friend is a quarter of an inch shorter than me and hasn't grown since the last two years. She says that having a menstrual period for a while can slow down ur growth in height. I first didn't believe her, but then i notice that i havent grown either since the last two years? I thought maybe it was depend on our genes.(her mom is 5'2 and her dad is 5'12-6'0, while my parents are 5'8 1/2 and dad 6'1) Is she right?

Your height has everything to do with your genetic make-up and a pituitary gland in your brain. Although, your pituitary gland operates hormonal effects like getting your period, the to are not directly linked together. Your growth may be slowed down for awhile, especially as a teenager just starting to go through all these changes. You body can only deal with so much at one time. Along with getting your period, your body is developing many other womanly traits and dealing with fluctuating hormones and sleep patterns. So growing "up" is the least of its worries at the moment.

I have heard that too. But my daughter started her period when she was 10-1/2 and she was only about 5'5" tall. She continued to grow until she was about 14 or 15 and topped out at 5'11". So in my daugthers case, it was not true.

i dont believe her either because i was around 5'7 or 8 and i started my period and now i am 5'10. i have had my period for 2 years. and yes i know i am tall. but wat is happening about ur height might have something to do w ur age. bc girls stop growing as early as 13 or as old as 16. i have tall parents and my period didnt stop me from growing!

Periods have nothing to do with your height.
