Reagan
1. He took on evil in the world. He built up our military because we have an economy and have wealth to do it. Eventually, the Soviet Union went broke. We scared them off.
2. He is the father of modern conservatism. He showed us that cutting taxes works.
3. He ended the Iran hostage situation by scaring the crap out of Iran. They let the hostages go as Reagan was taking office. They knew that if the hostages were not released, Iran was toast.
Many will say Bill Clinton. Here is why the things he gets credit for are false.
The economic growth under him was due to irrational and over inflated stocks. Everyone was rushing to not miss the next Microsoft. Stocks were worth hundreds a share and the company never made any money. Eventually the boom busted. This happened at the end of his term.

We have had many great Presidents, but my personal favorite was John F. Kennedy. He stood up for the working people and he didn't back down when threatened, the whole country mourned and was in shock when he was assassinated because he was so much for the people that elected him, not once do I remember anyone saying he was doing a poor job, he was doing such a good job, that our own government had to eliminate him, he was the most liked President, even over Hoover and Lincoln was never in the running, President Lincoln is more liked now than when he was in office, he wasn't a very liked President in his time, he did free the slaves but that was about all the good that he did. President Kennedy made it possible for all races to be treated as equals, Black people didn't have to use separate restrooms anymore and could eat in "white" restraunts, he made it so that all Americans were treated equal, as we are and it should never have mattered what color a person's skin was, but no other President addressed that as an issue that needed to be corrected. I did like President Reagan, but he killed the strength of our unions by allowing scabs to take over our airways when the air traffic controllers went out on strike to make an attempt to get a better pay package for themselves and their families. It's amazing how people forget over the years who did "we the people" good and who really hurt "we, the people". "We, the people" used to be strong in this country, we used to want to help each other out and now everyone just goes about their own way and only looks out for themselves and don't care who they hurt "on their way to the top". I firmly believe that if President Kennedy was our President today, or at least one like him, this country wouldn't be in the mess it's in and we would all be living a much better life now than what we are able to today, under the conditions that we are being forced to live. We have lost our morality, and respect, not only for one another but for ourselves as well. The vulgar language today is becoming a "norm" in today's standard and I know John F. Kennedy would have never allowed this great country to fall to the slums like it has. Just my opinion folks. I will admire him for what he accomplished while our President forever.

Well, there are several that have had a huge impact. I think that I have the most respect for Abraham Lincoln. He had guts. He pulled our country through a very rough time and stood up for civil liberties and human rights.
Then, while I disagree with some of their presidential decisions, I felt that both Herbert Hoover and his successor, FDR, did a fantastic job on the whole Hoover dam for the engineering marvel that it remains today.
These men and these huge projects all over the country are responsible for pulling our country out of the worst economic slump that we saw in the twentieth century.

I personally like Teddy Rooseveldt. He was the last honest president I think we had. I also think he was the last one not owned or knee deep in corruption.
More importantly Teddy believed in the American people. He made changes that he honestly thought would help America. He spoke wisely, stood by his beliefs and was admirable as a person. One of the very few presidents we've had who I can honestly say I liked as a person.

Although Lincoln is a great answer, as he preserved the union dring the civil war time period, and developed the perpetual union.
I would have to go with George Washington, he single handedly created the union which Lincoln preserved. He gave credibility to the Constitutional Convention, and without his attendance, there would still probably be individual states rather than the US

Bill Clinton. He had brilliant economic policies. He kept the nation safe, we were not fidgeting a war. He was a great public speaker.
Jimmy Carter as well, was the second best, followed by JFK, and then Johnson.

I don't think there was just one. 20th century I have three favourites (all for the same reason): Theodore Roosevelt; Harry Truman; and Ronald Reagan. All three called it like they saw it and they stood by what they believed.
