Yes it should be illegal. Why? Because many of the victims of bullying end up with mental and health problems due to the stress caused by the bullying. However, bullying is hard to prove as the bullying tactics are very subtle. How many people, say in high school, suffered from bullying and committed suicide? How many suffer from low self-esteem, low self-confidence or other mental disorders due to the treatment they received at the hands of bullies?
I know first hand how it feels to be bullied. I was bullied from junior high until I dropped out of high school. How was my life changed? I was a straight A student in Honor Society and on my way to a college scholarship and life in archeology. But the bullying became so bad I couldn't go to school anymore. I had lost weight, cut off my hair, stopped wearing make-up, and started skipping school, my grades fell to F's and next thing you know, I just quit.
Adults that suffer from bullying in the workplace tend to sleep poorly, gain weight, suffer from fatigue, depression, and other physical and mental ailments.
The bullies? Nothing happens to them, they get away with what they did, because of the nature of their actions. They accuse the victim of being overly senstive, reading more into it than there is, etc.
While it should be illegal, a better approach would be to teach at home and early in school what bullying is, what it does, and to teach parents and teachers to see the signs early and to intervene.

Yes, in principle, I think bullying should be illegal, because it is morally wrong. However I am not sure whether making it illegal would benefit people targeted by bullies. In Sweden, workplace bullying was made illegal, and the experience of some bullied workers was that the bullies (who were usually in authority) would manipulate things so that the victim looked like the bully, and was then legally liable!
When called to account, bullies will often turn things around and
blame their target for all the fuss. Onlookers rarely know who or what to believe. Therefore, there is a risk that bullies would use the law to cause further psychological pain to their victims.
If an anti bullying law was introduced it would have to be accompanied by clear definitions of bullying, and specialised training for those who enforced the law.

Well, if bullies were smarter then we would have had the columbine tragedy. Think about all the other school shootings and killings. Their root causes have been bullies. The other escalating violence can be attributed to bullies. Should it be illegal? NO, let the bullies get killed and the world just may be a better place where people feel violence and degradation is a way to resolve problems.....

Some bullies rape and murder, so it's illegal to an extent. And bullying should be illegal. Many people don't take bullying seriously enough, so they would be encouraged not to bully because it would be illegal, bystanders would be more likely to report bullying so people would react more, and bullies would go to jail so they couldn't bully anymore.

Cyber bullying isn’t illegal on the federal level in the US but it is illegal within specific states. And you can just block him on facebook , if you do they will not be able to find you in a Facebook search, see your profile, or interact with you through Facebook channels (such as Wall posts, Poke, etc.).

Yes, it should be illegal. People need to treat others with the respect and dignity they deserve. Nobody deserves to be bullied. Bullies are cowards. You never see them trying that crap with someone who might be able to lay them out. They pick on people they know won't clock them. There's something else. I was bullied a little in school. 5 years later, I had had a growth spurt, and every one of those idiots who bullied me peed down their legs when they saw me. The looks on their faces were precious.

yes, it is assault...it can and has left people scarred emotionally for life, kids have committed suicide and murder. to tolerate the bully with platitudes like it's a part of growing up it to condone the use of fear to make oneself feel better. When a child is a bully, then I also feel the home should be looked into, because there are often problems causing the person to bully. the word as a verb means to threaten or harass, as adults we would be outraged, and we need to feel that outrage for the lesser of ourselves in our society. lesser being children.

As far as I know, harassment, rape and assault and battery are already illegal.
What else does a bully do?
