Going Nuts, I think most people get agitated at the responses of others when they are sarcastic, nasty, mean or accusatory. I've seen a lot of responses where people assume a hypothetical situation is about the asker directly and respond in a harsh manner. I've seen many people respond negatively, depending on the question and I'm sure these responses surprised the person asking.

You're right, of course - if we take the arena to ask a question, we open the doors for ridicule, snide remarks, cynicism and such; therefore, we have to take our sensitivities off the radar screen. It's a little difficult sometimes when the question is "well meant" and people take it wrong.

Like you, I enjoy a good laugh - some questions are ridiculous and deserve a ridiculous answer. :)

People only want to listen to people that agree with them. If you don't agree with them or don't like what they say then they get mad. Most people don't want to open their minds and hear what people has to say if they don't like what they are saying OR agree with that person. People don't want to give other people respect when they have difference of opinion. You are right, if people don't like what other people are saying then they shouldn't ask questions and if people don't like the questions from some people then they shouldn't answer the question. Not everyone will agree with you, people have their own views, opinions, differences and beliefs and people should respect that.

It's why I try not to ask questions. I was stupid enough to ask Atheists why they felt Atheism worked for them more than Agnosticism. One idiot went off on a tirade about how I was self righteous for damning her for not believing in my god and that she didn't have to explain herself to me, etc.. I did get really mad since I never even mentioned what I believed in and I happen to not believe in any god! I don't mind jokes from smarty pants people but I don't need "answers" from presumptuous fools looking for any opportunity to attack people.

Most people only want what they want to hear, not necessarily what you think is best for them.
