combustion means burning which means reacting with oxygen

oxygen in the air is diatomic oxygen, O2

when we burn hydrocarbons (like propane), we make CO2 and water

so, C3H8 + O2 => CO2 + H2O

now you just have to balance it

three carbons on the left, need three on the right
eight hydrogens on left, need eight on right

C3H8 + O2 => 3 CO2 + 4 H2O

the carbons and hydrogens balance so now we just have to make oxygen work out.... their are 3*2 + 4 = 10 oxygens on right, so..

C3H8 + 5O2 => 3 CO2 + 4 H2O

voila
