to what extent did the framers of the consitution suceed in building effective limits into thier stronger national government?

George Washington said that we owe it to ourselves to elect people of like religious faith. That was the only check on our officials in public office. We have failed misserably at that.
Few men of faith lead our government anymore.
One of our founding fathers said that they had given us a free country if we can keep it. However they also said that the country would be doomed if the electorate ever learned to vote money from the federal treasury into their own pockets.
I think they have learned to do that, and are working even harder at trying to vote money out of the pockets of the rich into the pockets of the poor.
