Check the fuses under the dash. Actually it probably IS the bulb. The brights bulb is different from the normal bulb. Replace it and your brights will work

Sounds like the switch...1984..is it a floor switch? If so, they sell generic replacement floor switches at the part store. If it's a dimmer on the turn signal switch, that may be a little more complicated. Make sure that your wiring harness going up to the column is plugged in well. It probably goes to a relay. I would check the relay to see if you are getting any kind of voltage to the coil and if it changes when the switch is moved. Good luck.

I would first check the fuses.
The next step is to wiggle the bulb. Then check the spot where the bulb base touches the metal connector. Look and see if it is very corroded. Then check the wire. Then shake the wires nearby and see if it makes the light flicker on.
And in reality it could be any part of the wire all the way back to the alternator.

If it's not the bulb, and the low beam works, it's not the fuses. Check the wiring and the switches; it'll be one of those.

its your hi-beam switch and its located on the steering column down by your feet. there is a rod that goes from the hi-beam stalk down the steering column to the switch. but before you go hanging parts, check the bulbs, both grounds and power to the lights
