Darn....the wallet has ID, huh? Alright...I would have to call the person and give the wallet back to him/her fully in tact. You see, I would know that I was taking someone's hard earned money and it would not be right. On the other hand, if there was no ID, I wouldn't feel bad - however, I would turn it over to the local police and see if anyone would claim it. I believe it would rightly belong to me then, after 30 days (with no ID).
My husband actually experienced this and turned the wallet over to the person, who was very grateful. :)

That actually happened to me a few years ago, I found a ladies wallet in the street near my home. I looked in it to see if it had anything in it and found all the woman's id, credit cards and about $150 dollars in cash. I immediately called the police who sent an officer over to pick it up. The police called me later and told me they had returned the wallet and the lady said she had laid the wallet on the roof of her car to search for her keys and accidentally drove off. I could never have kept the money, I would have died of guilt.

RETURN IT! Good honest people does this all the time.
Think about it this way. That could be his whole months pay. That person who lost his wallet might be bringing what ever amount of money he got in that wallet home. To feed his family.
It's just the right thing to do. But then again if he is rich he might give you some for being honest.
And it makes you feel GOOD too, inside.

I had a twist on that happen to me about five years ago. I found a small wad of cash ($25 or so) and a business card on the ground at a gas station. I was the only car there, so I picked it up and took it in to work.
At work, I called the number on the business card, said I'd found the card and something that might belong to them at the gas station at such-and-such an intersection, and left my number.
A week went by. No call.
So... I took the $25 and donated it to the company Christmas fund-raiser.

I would try and contact the person who's it is.
I have lost a wallet before and know what a PAIN IN THE BUTT it is to have to call and cancel all your cards and get a new drivers license and SS card. Plus losing your money. Who knows what that person needed it for. Bills, Groceries to feed their kids, Gas to pick up their kids. who knows

While on vacation in Mexico I found a purse with over $500 cash, 3 major credit cards and the woman's ID and driver's license in a restaurant booth while having dinner with my family? I took it to the manager, his reply was troubling to say the least? He told me to leave it in the seat............
I opened the purse...........I called the phone # and left a message that I would be mailing it to the address on her drivers license?
I felt good about what I had done.

return it, its not yours. i've done this several times with wallets, a purse and a couple of credit cards.
actually---the credit cards i just called the number on the back and had them deactivate them.
there's not really a choice---returning it is the only thing to do.
