In the book "1984" there are many signs about how they can tell what we are tinking like the "thought police" can people really do that. In what ways could they do it how do they know if they are right or not? If they are right how do they prove that it is really the truth and they are not just making it up to win their case? If you have any answers to this please let me know and if know of any more ways to explain "1984" in more detail to me that would be a big help too.

I think that to a large extent people can tell what you are thinking. From your expressions, your conduct, your behavior. In Japanese culture, people always know what eachother are thinking and feeling without verbal expressions. But this ability to tell is quite limited and not exact at all. Sometimes its great fun to think wild things knowing that no one knows your inner most thoughts. But people can tell that you are having fun doing it. Its the human condition that we relate to. And if you are up to no good around the police or authority, they know it!

Absolutely NOT. They can't even tell what they themselves are thinking! They may be able to get a rough idea based on physical observation- your body language, temperament, attitude, etc--- not what someone is thinking, ... most people don't actually think anyway...myself included.
