In formal writing, which is gramatically correct? "In the morning of the 4th of August..." OR "On the morning of the 4th of August..."

On the morning of the 4th of August as it is classified as a time of day and you can't be "in" a day you can only exist "on" that day

With that sentence it would be "On the morning". You would use "in the morning" with something like "When I woke up in the morning...."
