In the State of California, are women paid for 6 weeks of maternity time and then paid for an additional 6 weeks for bonding. I'm very confused. Please help answer my question with as much detail as possible. Thank you!!!

Employers must give 6 weeks maternity leave (from the day of birth). They do NOT have to pay and most probably won't. I belive you can take as much of your sick time as you have available in order to get paid during those six weeks. There is FMLA (Family and Maternity Leave Act) which allows 12 more weeks (unpaid) with an assurance of returning to the same position at the same pay. All over this country maternity leave stinks. I understand in Canada women get paid leave and can take up to year off with job assurance after.

The bonding leave is "maternity leave" for adoptive parents; maternity leave is for mothers and their partners who give birth to their children. They are both the same length- six weeks.
