At the gigs I've been to always the muscian will scream the name of the current town/state and the whole crowd will get excited and scream back., what is up with it? Why do people get so excited just by the name of their town/state?

Because they're just excited that the musician acknowledged them in any way, even if it's not THEM specifically.

Because they are from the town/state. It's probably people are so excited about their band that they are willing to scream anything out loud. But it's just my opinion.

Drunk/Stoned people will scream at anything they recognize. The name of a city, a their reflection in a mirror, all their hopes and dreams running away....

I think it's because it's exciting when someone famous is in your town and you get thrilled when they talk about your town because they are there.
