I am pregnant- 3 months to be exact. I work as a BS1.... work 1 on 1 with a 6 year old girl on behaviors- she is diagnosed as Autistic. She doesnt always have behaviors but when she does- they can be pretty rough- hitting- pulling hair- bolting- falling to the floor and not getting up. I have a physical disability- not severe- but weakness due to a stroke... When do you think I should get done work? If you were me, when would you get done?
Thanks.

Pregnancy is your main priority now. You have to take care of yourself and your baby. If you believe that this job could be dangerous to your well being while you are carrying a child, I would consult with your supervisor and ask to be reassigned in a more appropriate environment for a pregnant woman. Hopefully they can work with you and you'll feel safer.

Okay. here is the thing. Autista as you probably know can be extramly obbsesive. I would start to take time off now, and see less and less untill you are out of the picture for your maternaty leave. I would stay away after 30 weeks, babies are safe and sound in there watery homes from gentle rough horsing, but i have seen autist tantrums, it is no good to be prego, weak, off balance and try and hold those arms legs elbows and heads still, while trying to keep around a buldging belly, and avoiding those flinging apendages from hitting you. Please use your descretion. if you've worked with her longer than a month then you've known the girl long enough to know what to do. Good luck and congrats!!! on baby and makin a difference on the dissabled children of our world.

I would discuss this issue very forthrightly with your physician and your work supervisor.
Meanwhile, make sure that you position yourself carefully when you work with her. Sit perpendicular to her, not face to face. If she becomes agressive, it is harder for her to hit or kick if you are sitting sideways rather than head-on. Also, sit on the side that puts your stronger arm in front of her, so you can block any aggressive attempts with greater ease. DO NOT try to pick her up when she falls to the floor.
Wishing you good health and a happy, healthy baby. :-)

Soon, This sounds like the little girl could hurt you, and what if you take a blow to the abdomen. Time to take a sabbatical. You can return after the baby is born.

I think I would ask to get moved. If they can not do that then I would be prepared to stop in the next month or two. I think a job is a job and your baby needs to be safe!

I have worked with kids with autism and know the dangers. Can you be reassigned? If you are with a less violent kid then you should be able to work for your entire pregnancy, as long as you do not have any complications.

I would say soon. Find something less dangerous in that field (if you truly love the work)
