He is currently in Turkey. He was criticized because he implied that he considered Islam to be a violent religion. Those words are especially controversial now, since he's in a country whose population is 99% Muslim.

This Pope is politically savvy. First he got his 'head bashed' for mentioning that a person had said Islam was a violent religion. And now he goes to ask the Imams to denounce violence as the means to a political end. Pretty smart backing 'um into, at the very least, a rhetorical corner.
Stepped in mud and now smells like the morning dew.

Popes are religious leaders, the head of the Catholic Church. This Pope thinks he's a commentator for CNN on world events. He needs to clean up the messes within the Catholic church and stay at the Vatican. He's got plenty to keep him busy there.

in Turkey. Turkey is somewhat of a gateway to the East and the West, a sort of bridge between the "muslim" and the "christian" worlds, respectively.
