Because money grows on trees and those greedy Republicans stash all that money in a secret lockbox.

It's long over due and when it comes it usually is far to little .
Many of the working class make under the cost of living and while wasted space in computer tech has risen in wages to phenomenal heights where an inflated economy is not as noticeable the economy is already bad . So why are the powerless have nots always the first to suffer in a pentocratic govt. Because power corrupts .And the mistakes of govt should not be taken out on the poor to support the rich. The money sunk into Iraq would displace any impact a fair wage for the proletariat could create. And How much does the CIA take from taxes to create wars and destroy and terrorize the american people as in the bay of pigs or the twin towers ? Are the american people blind ? Or just half blind?

Because 75% of the country can't balance a check book, much less think through economic problems.

A minimum wage that actually raises wages introduces inefficiencies to the economics of a country, which costs jobs. Usually it costs jobs to those who hope to benefit from the wages!!

When the minimum wage was last effective, we complained about runaway inflation and horrible unemployment -- stagflation. While the minimum wage wasn't entirely to blame it sure didn't help at all.

Let's put it this way.

The cost of living is constantly outstripping our wage increases. A descent minimum wage barely gets a person to the poverty line. If society either doesn't regulate the inflation then the minimum wage "must" raise in order to barely meet the status quo. If it remains fixed, you end up with a lot of homeless - starving people looking for social assistance. Laisse faire isn't a nice way to do away with the less fortunate.

Keep in mind, it's not the poor that's forcing the increase in the cost of living...it's greed from the big businesses.

It's not bad for the country, that's a flat out lie. Giant corporations making billions, not millions, record profits in a QUARTER. Billions, eleven to be precise and another eight or ten the very next quarter. We're talking about minimum wage here, poverty level wages in today's America if you are a family of four. This is what is bad for the country.

Now tell me what can one person possibly do to justify that kind of money when we have so many poor and struggling people in the United States of America, the greatest country on the face of the earth, in my humble opinion. A pittance to these people, a world of difference to many. Let's talk about morals. Peace

everyone wants to raise the minimum wage because if you're uninformed it sounds like you get more money . . . what people dont realize that raising minimum wage doesnt just give more money - in turn the employers have to pay more for employees - which makes them charge more for services, products, etc.
USUALLY the min wage reflects a ratio of cost of living and blah blah etc (i dont know everything about it this is my opinion)
what if the wage was raised to 20/hr? then bread would cost about 11bucks a loaf and phone service would be about 100/mo for basic local . . . .
and some people say that some people cant make enough to live on and that its all the republicans' fault . . . . i have supported 4 people for 2 years on my income alone . . . . barely, but we have nice things and i dont have a college degree and i didnt make over 11/hr until i busted my butt to get that far. if you raise the min wage, people who busted to get to their level are not getting raises too, so we end up making just about the same as someone who just got out of high school.
we should all in general stop trashing people because its fun, try researching things a little, and maybe informed decisions would be made - that would make a fun election

Just because something is popular doesn't make it right.

Hey, if you threw on a referendum to say that I'd not have to pay taxes at all, ever again, I'd probably vote for it. But then our highways would get potholes with nobody to fix them.

Thanks to the growing costs of minimum wage, products will adjust in only a matter of months to compensate, which leaves the dollar value at the same.

So you're getting more money, but now things cost more. What did you REALLY accomplish in raising the minimum wage?

Young voters and voters that are stuck due to economics or education bought into the "its going to help everyone".
Minimum wage going up will have one overwhelming result in the near future but it will be for the worse.
The cost of everything will go up across the board as employers will have to cover the new wages. People who's salary stay the same or just above the new minimum will be paying more for every items they buy. So their pay checks will literally shrink.

That is the great economic boom the democrats promised.

P.S. Union members voted for the miminum wage increase as they were told their wages will go. They don't know why - they don't care , they want money. (friends in the union)

A minimum wage job isn't supposed to support someone, it's supposed to be for teenagers who need some extra cash until they get out of school and get a real job.

The problem is that there are more and more people who drop out of school, then expect to be able to support a family doing a job a chimp can do. Raising the minimum wage only encourages such behavior.

because people believe that raiseing the minimum wage will ease the plight of the those at poverty level and below. truth is.. minimum wage goes up, companies will not take a cut in profits.. so instead they will raise prices. milk will cost more, bread.. basic commidites.. as they go up so will other things. Inflation gets a turbo boost and after all that the middle class who didn't get a raise now becomes poverty level and the poor are still poor.

hmm... 75 percent of the population isn't working for minimum wage.. it's actually like 3 percent...

so, people clearly weren't voting with their pockets...

maybe it's because people see that things are getting more and more expensive and realize that it would be impossible to make it on the small wage...

and there aren't that many on it... so it's effect will be very minimal on the economy... is there one Republican that actually has a grasp on economics besides what Rush said today? massive inflation didn't occur any of the other times it's been raised? why is that?
