I have a shoes off rule in my house. Nobody is allowed inside until their shoes are off. When guests come over most will see me in my socks and all the shoes at the door and just automatically take off their shoes. I have a lot of friends who visit frequently and they all know about the rule so they always remember to kick off their shoes on their way in. For first time visitors I try to be outside when they arrive so that way I can invite them in and take off my shoes in front of them. Usually people will ask "Do you want me to take off my shoes." To which I reply that would be great we never wear shoes in the house. I have actually had some people become shoes off homes themselves after visting me and seeing how clean it really keeps the house. I love just walking around in my socks.

I take mine off as soon as I'm home. No rules for guests (unless they have shoes caked with mud!!--only then would I request they remove their shoes-if they didn't offer!!)

No shoe rule in my house. It's too restrictive and unwelcoming and I would have to pay attention to the rule too much. I wear clogs indoors because of heel spurs.
My house looks neat and clean all the time with the choices I made in furniture and floor cover. I choose somewhat casual furniture in easy to maintain colors.
My guests are encouraged to flop where ever they wish. They can put their feet up on my chairs too.

My son used to live with some friends who wanted people to not wear shoes in the house. I only went in when they weren't home because I felt insulted by somebody trying to tell me not to wear shoes in their house.
In my house I don't wear shoes but it's my choice and all are free to make their own choices as well.
If someone had a very expensive pure white rug I could see politely requesting people to take their shoes off for that sake, but that's it. Otherwise it's like saying when you're in my house you have to be the same religion as me.

i'm from Germany and we many times positioned on "houseshoes" or slippers contained in the abode to keep the carpets sparkling (and considering that the flooring are frequently chilly). If we had a suitable dinner shopper, it should be unthinkable to ask them to take their shoes off, or to positioned on houseshoes esp. in the adventure that they are elegantly dressed.
