because you can't fire an entire team.
just like when CEOs are fired when their companies do poorly. the person in charge is ultimately responsible for everything that goes on in an organization.
...and any GOOD cook would taste the food before giving it out to be eaten by others to ensure quality.

"It would be like calling a cook a horrible cook if she had horrible ingredients..."
Well, If the cook doesnt pick the right ingredients, and that leads to the cook having disgusting food...then overall she is a bad cook.
What I'm saying is, coaches are responsible for recruiting talent and getting the best players they can to come play for them. If they cant get that done, then they arent a well rounded coach and they wont be successful...therefore, they get fired.

Sorry pal the coach is the captain, they go down with the ship.they are responsible not just for what happens on the sidelines, their job is'nt 8-5, more like 18hr days.
they have to inspire the team the same way generals inspire the troops.a good cook does'nt have bad ingredients anymore than a doctor has bad surgical tools.a good cook makes sure that the kitchen runs. period! Coaches know that their carriers are feast or famine. when the economy goes bad we blame the president

It all depends on how long the coach has had to be in control of the team. I think a coach needs 3 years, and if they have not built a winning program, then it is time to move on and try to find another guy who could turn your program around.
Miami U coaches were fired for the simple fact that they had no control over their team whatsoever

One of the most important jobs if not the most for a coach is recruiting. You have to have the horses to win in today's sports. The head coach is responsible for the entire program unless the AD has a hand in it. The last statement was why Gene Stallings left Bama. You think Bama would like him back. So if the program is not going in the right direction then you have to change the man at the helm.

And when they win, the coach is always responsible, isn't he?
Coaches take decisions and depending in that decisions a team wins or loses. Maybe one game is lost for luck, but coaches have all the power in a game.
They also have big salaries and power to choose the best players they can find, so they are responsible of losing or winning.

The coach is responsible for the personnel on his team. After 3 years, he has selected every player on the squad. He gets the boot if they don't win.

they are held responsible... they get to recruit the team, they choose the plays, they choose who plays and for how long... they are the decision makers.. they are management... that is where the responsibilty lies.. and the cook, chose the ingredients, she is responsible... why would you serve crap for others to eat... if the cook cannot choose good ingredients, they should not cook!!!
