You already know, I assume, that you first need a bachelor's degree, which typically takes four years. Then, as others have noted, it's three years in law school. Then comes the fun of passing the California bar exam, purported to be one of the toughest in the nation.

Full-time law school in the U.S. takes three years. I did it part-time and it took four (I don't know where you are, but in California, the law requires that you finish within 5 years, or you have to start over from scratch. Therefore, law schools design the part-time programs to take four years, so that if you get delayed for any reason you can still finish under the time limit). I'm not sure what is considered a good LSAT score, and I'm sure it depends upon where you are applying. I had a 166, which I think was slightly above the mean at the time where I went. I'm sure I would have needed more to go to Harvard, Yale, or Stanford.

neniaf is right. 3 years full time, 4 years part time. Cardozo in NYC has an accelerated program that takes 2.5 years, and I think Southwestern University in California has a special 2 year program. Other than those, every other school follows the 3/4 year route. I would say a 150 will get you into a 2nd tier school, 160 gets you into a first tier, and about 175+ will get you into the top 10.
