here it is, the school record for points scored in a basketball game season by one player is 462. maria has 235 points so far this season, how many more does she need to break the record? thanks.

Let x = points she still needs.
235 + x > 462
x > 227

The highest score ever was 462. Assuming points can only be counted as integers, 463 (one point higher than the previous record) is the total number of points the basketball player needs to break the record.

463 - 235 = 228

462 - 235 + 1= 228

you have to add 1 to the equation because she has to get more to beat the record. if u just subtract 235 from 462 u would just get how much she need to get to the same score but to beat the score she has to get 1 more so u have to add 1

x=463-235
x = 228
