Don't they realize it's insulting to ignore my actual identity and strip me of my heritage? I am not the same color as marshmallows. I have a ethnicity just like Japanese people do or African Americans or Mexicans. So why do I get called 'white'? Isn't this racism?

It's not racism, it's human nature. If we didn't call people by a skin color, it would be a hair color like the Reds and the Grays. Human beings have a need to categorize and identify people in concrete ways because it makes us feel like we belong somewhere and because it makes the world a little less confusing. Don't take it personally.

If it makes you feel better, I have been called black, Jewish, Indian and white. I don't know what I am because I don't know my biological family's heritage at all, so it doesn't bother me. Rumor has it that I am French, but I'm not sure that accounts for my yellowish skin tone and black eyes, as I have never been to France to see what French people look like.

If you really can't stand being called white, say no, I'm not white, I'm J.

It's just a generalization. Most people associate White, Black with physical and cultural characteristics. The don't intend to ignore who or what you are. Until they get to know you, this is the only way to identify you. I'm Black and don't mind being called Black, even thought I'm a Honey Brown. I understand the connotations the term is used and know that no disrespect or maltreatment is intended when it's used.

people are really judgemental. it would be really annoying if i had to explain to so many people who i really was also. you don't have to answer them ,just know who you are.

it isn't racism, i'm pretty sure of that. people just don't know what they are saying sometimes
