San Antonio for family stuff, history and culture. New Braunsfels for river and camping. Austin or Dallas for nightlife. Salado for bed and breakfasts and antiques. Padre for spring break. Tyler for state park. Glen rose for family camping. Arlington for sports and amusment parks. Fredricksburg for R&R and great German history. Galveston for the beach.
