But I will be willing to bring that person to my job for employment or help them find something that better they like.

Korye,

That is the right thing to do (offer the job).

I once gave an apple to a man who was begging for food. When I walked away, feeling good, he threw it at me.

A lady was at the gas station yesterday searching the trash for recyclables. I gave her the empty water bottles from my car.

I don't ever give money on the street because I do not want to
support drug dealers business and more than likely when somebody is begging out in the road that's what they want money for. I will give them an extra sandwich, soda, bottle of water or whatever I happen to have extra in the car as I spend a lot of time in the car on my job. It they don't like it then I guess they don't get anything.

I don't give money to people on the street.

I do, however, donate to local charities (both money and items) in order to help those less fortunate.

Maybe I'm cynical, but I don't have faith that the money I give to someone on the street would be used for something that would help them eventually get OFF the street.

(Funny thing is, as I'm typing this, nip/tuck comes on where one of the main characters is addressing a panhandler...)

No, you're not wrong. I tend to get irritated when I'm on my way to work and see the same people on the corner asking for money everyday. I have to work to support my family. Why should I give it to someone who has made begging a career choice? I know that sometimes people are down on their luck, but for the regulars on my corner, I don't feel bad driving by them.

You're not wrong for feeling this way because you have a beautiful heart to give money to people on the street. My husband and I give money to the people on the street. God bless us! Smile!

LOVE your answer La Gringa!!! It is not your responsibility to give everyone money, although your heart is in the right place. Her answer telling of offering the fruit is perfect. They don't want it, they are probably going to try to get liquor. THAT is why it is not your job to take care of all of them. If they were gonna use the money to try to better themselves it might be a bit different but 99% of them are not going to change nor do they want to . . . they're just looking for their next fix wether it be drugs or booze or whatever.

I never give money to strangers on the street. They could use it to buy drugs, alcohol or porn. I carry fast food restaurant cards in my pocket. If I see someone I feel really needs a meal, I hand them one. It can only be used for a meal. Once a lady begged for money to get a prescription filled. I took the prescription, had it filled, and returned it to her. But I never give them cash.

No, cause at the wal-mart in my town people ask for "donations" all the time and my gf works in a subway on the inside and she said that she has seen those people come in a pay for sandwiches with only change, the same people taking donations, so i never give any money to people taking "donations", and you can usually tell who is just trying to get your money cause these guys just have plastic buckets and are wearing hoodies and just say "do you want to make a donation" and they dont say what its for or anything so its obvious, so im with you....

u are in no way responsible for these people, or giving them money. u should not feel guilty about it. u can't make yourself responsible for everyone. u did what u could do for them by offering to take them to a place they might find employment, but employment is not usually what they want.

If our assinine government (be it Fed, State, Local) would stop TAXING everybody & everything... we'd all have a lot more money in our pockets. I really feel that if our government would get out of the business of buying voters with taxpayer-funded programs and give-aways, the average joe wouldn't be taxed as much. We'd have more of our own money and we'd give freely to charity. Americans are very very giving people. Just see how we gave after 9/11. Just see how we gave to Amish in PA that had that horrible school shooting a few months back. Americans are amazingly generous. If only the government would stop taxing................
