blogged about it, got dumb responses.

"You can't define it." --Hey, how can you tell that you're in love if you can't define it? How can you tell that it exist? I mean, at least God has a basis for existence. But the person countered with "You can't explain God, does he exist?" (it was a catholic school, everyone was catholic, including me)

"Love is life, and life is love. Love is beautiful. Everybody needs love to exist."-- WTH was that. That wasn't an explanation or a definition, it sounds like a freaking quote from a dating game show.

"Love is not the same as a crush, love is something bigger." -- But, you can't tell why. Sounds like an exaggerated crush to me, then.

"Love is affection, commitment, and lust combined." --IMO it's not dumb at all. But it sound like someone grouped the three and named it.

~Not me. I base mine on handcuffs and whips, and maybe some tapioca pudding and hot wax.

The only way I have been able to distinguish a crush from love was after the break-up. Then everything is crystal clear. A crush fades so very quickly. Get over it a week, maybe a month. Never really miss the person. Might think of them fondly and wonder what they are up to from time to time. No jealousy. Wish them the best sorta feelings. The one person that I know I loved. OMG I can never shake it off. Always think about the person. Feel sad and hurt at his absence. Miss and care about him forever. Can never imagine him with another woman. It will stick with me forever. I dont think you can stop loving someone. You either did or didnt. It is kinda like a family member. No matter really what happens you still love them.

There are many types of love, and ways to love.
Example: You can love the flavor of chocolate, and love strawberries but you may love one more than the other.

You love your mother and father because they are your parents, even if you don't always agree. But, you feel a different type of love for your grandparents, and so on...

When you fall deeply in love with someone you'll know it. It can actually physically make you feel wonderful, maybe light headed. You can also feel the pain when someone you love passes away, or moves on or away from you. Some cry and mope around for weeks & years sometimes.
Example: Sometimes, you'll hear about someone who passes on shortly after the love of their life dies. My grandfather did within a year of my grandmother, I think he just gave up.
There is more to True Love than just this or TV Soap's, and it take's oceans of time it seems, to find it, not like in a 1-3 hour TV show.

In answer to your subject line, yes--until they actually find it.

Love is what completes a person and makes them whole inside...we aren't born whole; we're born with a piece missing that's floating around out there in someone else's pocket. Love is what drives us until we find it and keeps us from being alone in the world once we do. I think it's necessary in order to achieve our own fulfillment and enjoyment of life. But you can't define it as anything but a feeling, bc that's all that it is.

That is a very good question. The answer is quite obvious.
All teens these days are highly influenced by the soap operas and melodrama on the tube. Hence, it is logical for them to make their definition of love based on what they see and hear...

i think the root of the whole "defintinion of love" problem is based on the fact that we are trying to use the word to cover too many different kinds of feelings. how can we compare the love of chocolate ice cream with the love of our children or the love of a football team? its crazy to try and define it to cover all of these contexts. we need to develope a more complex language of feelings.
