Ya know, that should have a 302 in it and in 88 they had a double bicycle style timing chain setup and you really never had to worry about problems with them. The biggest problem you will have is that you will need to eventually replace the timing sensors, water pump, and fuel pump. Other than that, I just can't imagine anything else going out other than your AOD, but those are pretty tough too. I would recommend 10W30 Good luck.

I usually recommend 10w40 or 20w50. Cars that age tend to consume a little oil. A thicker oil will help slow that down. It also helps build your oil pressure a little bit. I also sell a product called Lucas oil treatment. You substitute one quart of Lucas for one quart of oil each oil change. Forget about Slick 50. As soon as you drain your oil, the treatment goes with it. High mileage oils are okay, but in my opinion you can't beat Lucas. I used it in my own truck. If you live near an O'Reilly Auto Parts, they stock it.
By the way, using a full synthetic oil in a vehicle with that many miles will actually increase oil consumption. The molecules are smaller than in refined oil, therefore they pass more easily through worn parts.
