Pros's & Cons of folding a map:
Pros's:
1. When folded, a map can be stored just about anywhere.
Under a seat in your car, in a drawer, or in a box, etc.

Cons:
1. Folding causes creases that will ruin any map and make it
harder, if not impossible, to read.
2. Eventually it will tear at the creased area.

Pros's & cons of rolling a map:
Pros's:
1. Map will last lnoger.
2. Will be aesy to read for a much longer time.
3. Only edges are at risk for tearing.
3. Less fading.

Cons:
1. Harder to store.
2. Rolled maps don't fit in car or home as easily as folded maps will.

Maps eventually wear out anyway and are easy to find....usually.
However, there are some maps that are rare or harder to locate. These should be protected by rolling and putting them into a tube. Or....by having them encased in a picture frame to preserve them from too much handling. This is especially true when the maps are of great historical value.

If you fold a map you get creases, which eventually fade and then tear. It makes the map hard to read in those spots.
