because all of the cheerleaders are hated, but everyone talks about how coolllll and hottttt they are!

When I was in high school, I had wanted to be a cheerleader because they were popular. I was a "bookworm" and thought it would be cool to be on the cool squad. Fortunately for me, my book smarts actually made me popular by itself. I didn't have to conform to what society thought was cool, which was awesome!
So when you're popular, at least in high school, yes, others wish they could be you. Many envy you at that level because no one wants to be the nerdy kid or the geek. When you are nice, people simply LIKE you. Even if you aren't as popular as the cheerleader, the football jock or the hotsy-totsy girl, the "nice" ones are always remembered and definitely always liked.

I'm black and in my school we don't use the word popular so I can't help ya.
