Well, the wrestlers are athletes and they do fight. But thats not the answer to your question
It is patronised because of the way it is promoted. The sales and ads show that people are fooled into believing that these guys actually fight and that the blood dripping from their foreheads is due to the fight.
Its all in the marketing tactics. The wrestlers are portrayed as "heroes". Thats why they have a huge fan following and every wrestling arena is always sold out

for the same reason survivor is. they don't call it a sport they call it sports entertainment.it's fake yeah? just the way kung-fu movies are, it's called choreography.the training is in knowing and perfecting the stunts, which are quite dangerous if done wrong.it blends the cliff hanger soap opera hype with athletic moves and a story lines. the announcers are known as color commentators.they allow the viewers a way of getting into the action. stupid? maybe but it nets billions in ticket and merchandise sales each years pluss they entertain the troops in iraq

The WWE is entertainment because of the fact the action relies on the story surrounding the fits and is extremely little to do with the definitely fits. Its no longer for the human beings that locate the action relaxing, its geared in the direction of those that desire to work out drama lead to some sort of violence.
