1. Supposedly because the new ball has better grip and feel, eliminates the need for a break-in period, which is needed for leather balls, and has consistant characteristics from ball to ball.

2. The league says the tights ban is because they don't like the look of the tights and thought players wore them as some sort of fashion statement. The league wants the look of players on the court to be consistant. They've also banned players from wearing rubber wrist bands that have writing on them like the players name.

3. The Bulls have their own team rules, and one of those rules is that players don't wear headbands (the Utah Jazz have the same team rule). Players can be fined, benched and suspended fo breaking team rules. Teams have their own reasons for having team rules, such as putting out a particular image, as a show of team unity, etc. There's nothing wrong with wearing a headband, but players need to be aware of their teams rules and follow them. The flap with Wallace started because he says he didn't know about these rules at the time he signed with the team.

okay candise and brenda put alot down but didnt actually answer q.3. BECAUSE THERE ISNT ONE. its an uptight coach who never got enough playing time as a player so dosnt realise that the way you feel on the court is very important. for example, the G.O.A.T (jordan) used to wear a sweats on his arm and an extra pair of shorts, this made him feel comfortable now imagine where the bulls would be if jordan wasnt coomfortable!

If i was the GM i would be diciplinging Scot.S if i sign a 60m dollar player i expect him to be given a smooth integration to the team. If this means letting a 60m dollar player play like a 60m dollar player, then fine let the guy wear a headband.

LEBRON -
I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't wear a headband; I'd be upset if they had some rule here,'' James said. ``I don't know why it is such a problem. It is not disrespecting anybody, it's not thinking you're bigger than anyone on the team.''

``It is a ROUTINE I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't wear one,'' James said. ``If it is something you have been doing your whole life -- it doesn't matter what field you're in, athletics or the business side -- if someone comes and tells you to switch your routine up, it is going to mess up your work.''

I only have an answer for your third question. Some of the coaches in the NBA do not let their players wear headbands (or even different color shoes as in Coach Sloan with the Jazz) for uniformity. Some NBA coaches want to instill a strong sense of "team play" and cohesiveness among their players and, as dumb as it may appear at first glance, uniformity in dress attire during a game is one way in which they try to achieve it. There were several first round draftees this year who were used to wearing headbands in college who are now not allowed to with their respective NBA teams. In a sense, I'm sure the coaches also see this as a way of testing the commitment of their new players to be part of a ":team" rather than an individual player. I'm equally sure Wallace as a seasoned player doesn't think it should apply to him, but the coach's rules must apply to all or none.
