Does anyone know why exactly Macbeth wants to kill Macduff's family and servants?

Macbeth kills Macduffs family because he knows that mcduff is raising an army against him and back in the day the worst thing you could do to a man is kill his family and destroy his home because family meant alot. So it was Macbeths sick little way of messing with mcduff.
