I've never used any of the research tools at any online brokerage. You have the best 'research tool', it's called READING - the yahoo finance pages, company financials, and quarterly earnings reports.

I use ameritrade because the pages are very clean, the ticker is easy to use, and they are relatively cheap. I've used Etrade and was unhappy. I'm thinking about checking out Schwab because I was a bit upset that I didnt have a chance to bid on the Nymex IPO. Schwab was a broker on that IPO. Not to say that they will broker other IPO's, but I would have like to give that one a bid.

Good luck.

My opinion, the best website for online stock trading is www.saxobank.com . Saxobank offers stock trading on 19 global stock exchanges across the globe. Take a look, try their demo account, it is free. Saxobank is an investment bank operating in Denmark, London and Singapore.

E*trade does not have very good research tools.
TDAmeritrade is better and less expensive.
