I won this item on eBay a few months ago. I'm trying to figure out where it came from. The dragons look Asian but the cherub look more European. It is made out of a heavy weight metal. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

My degree was actually in Art History but I hadn't even thought of the Book of Kells! Now that you mention it, it does look very similar to the images in there. By looking at the inside of the flask you can tell that it's old but maybe not VERY old. It's a little rusty and corroded. The top does come off and is attacked by a chain. It's about 8 inches tall I'd say.

I bought it on eBay for about $5, maybe less. The person said she was an antique toy dealer and that someone had given it to her but she could not find any information on it and wanted to get rid of "extra stuff". There are not any initials or markings on it.

How can you tell it's a dog and not a dragon or a snake?

Try Italy. It looks really neat.

How big is it? Does the top open? and how did you "win" it on ebay?
And they aren't dragons, they're dogs. Pretty classical celtic images. Google "The Book of Keels" to see some images. The cherub is the ringer, it doesn't really fit into the style of the rest of it.

I finally have the picture open this flask looks like early 1800's.
Victorian, possibly from England or Germany. See if there are
any silversmiths markings on this flask. It is very beautiful.

Antique? Doubtful, looks cool though. I'd take a swing from it

It seems too ornate to be very old, the craftsmanship would make it a very rare piece and as such would make it expensive today.
