There are two things you should know. #1 speed tests using small bits of data (usually 32kb) of information and send them directly from your computer to their test server. The speed at which it reaches them is your speed test results. If the connection between your computer and theirs is fast, you will have skewed results (faster). Linked with the small amount of data, and the results can be deceiving. Second, you just about NEVER download at the maximum speed you are alloted (usually about 1/10 of your max speed). And I as a third (I know I know i said two right? Sorry) if the connection between you and the place your downloading is slow, you will not download at the rate you'd like (download speeds vary from place to place).

Speedtest uses a clean fast connection. Your download of 80kps could be related to the server you are downloading from.

You can also download tcp optimizer to get the most out of your system. http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php back up your current setting before making any changes.. (its on the menu)

Downloading is controlled by the server from which you are downloading from. There is nothing you can do to force it to deliver information to you any faster. However you can try downloaders like netants or download accelerator available at http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/downloader/fwdown.html

Lots of things but most likely your provider. find a neighbor with the same provider and have them run the same test you do. If they are the same, your neighborhood switch probably has issues. If it's only you, it could be noise on the line coming into your house. Could be lots of things. Contact your provider first and work with them.

It is most likely your DSL modem/router causing the problem. Turn off your computer, monitor and modem/router in this order. Wait a couple of minutes and then restart in reverse order.
