It is not always cut and dry age. It also has to do with maturity and why the parents divorced. If the other parent is a wife beater, rapist, or has a criminal record then the child will probably have to be 18 to live there. If the child is mentally challenged depending on the severity of the condition he may never have the right to make the decision.↔

Well, obviously a child has a common sense about them, and if my 11 year old wanted to move with the other parent it would be hard to let her go, but I want her to be able to see what it is like and if the grass is really greener on the other side. I would not let a 9 year old make a decision like that not even a 10 year old.

Never allow a child to make the decisions you should be making. At least that's how I'm approaching the parenting of my daughter. At 18, they get their own responsibilities, and until then, you get two votes and your child gets an opinion.

12 mostly his or her own decisions

18 all his or her own decisions, parents still can have opinions
if they are nice, they are still welcome
