The proffessors example was how to choose good wine, how to chose a good sofa, how to file in small claims court. The professors idea of BAD topics were how to chane your oil, how to change a tire, how to balance a checkbook. any ideas? PLEASE I BEG OF YOU!

Don't pick anything subjective like choosing wine or sofas. Everyone's tastes are different. What is good to you may not be to someone else. Also, it's tough to answer this one now knowing what grade level you're in. Can you elaborate? How about.....

1) How to put on a condom

2) What to look for when buying a house (termite damage, water damage)

3) How to successfully negotiate a lower price on a new car (know the fair market value, Kelly Blue Book value, there are lots of good books on conflict management that can help with this one)

4) How to do CPR

5) What to do if you are in a car accident (call police, get insurance info, don't admit guilt)

6) How to fill out you income tax forms (nothing too complicated, though)

7) How to do a breast/testicular exam for cancer

I did two that were pretty successful. One was how to make a taco salad. I brought in the ingredients and had people come up to do each step of the recipe to get everyone in class involved.

The other was how to give a speech/speak in public.

Try to get the audience involved and it will be much more effective. Figure out a topic that will interest the people in your class.

Here's a few more topics:
- how to get an A in the class
- how to use Power Point or another program - - how to create a web site or profile on MySpace or use eBay
- how to wrap a present
- how to choose a game system/TV/MP3 player

how about : how to choose a good seafood restraunt?
1) is the seafood fresh from the ocean, or shipped frozen?
2) is the atmosphere / decorations fitting to the setting? as an example: I ate at an seafood restraunt that had THICK glass near the booths, and on the other side of the THICK glass was an extra large aquarium. you could watch ocean animals (not necessarily the ones you would eat). And had variety of aquariums inside the place.
3) Are there specialty items on the menu or / and a variety of items to choose from?
some restraunts will cook on a grill in front of you.
some have videos to teach you about conservation of ocean life animals.
just an idea. maybe could help

Check out http://www.ClassTopic.com They have some great topics that I've used in the past. Each topic has three good sources to get you started on the research, too.

I suggest the one on how to calculate pi by throwing frozen hot dogs. Look on the website under Archives > How To.

I would suggest how to prevent being scammed when shopping in stores or online. It would fit perfectly around this time of the year and there are plenty of sources out there that you can use to get ideas. Plus everyone does shopping, so why not educate people on how to not get scammed or ripped off, seeing as how some holiday shopping is around the corner.
