First off I'm not ADD (or ADHD). I just can't get into studying or doing homework. I tried all the techniques people suggest... going to the library, finding a quiet place, study groups, etc. Every time I try, I either get distracted, daydream, or get sidetracked with something else. any suggestions?

It sounds like you do have ADHD. Your next-to-last sentence tells me that. I'd suggest getting tested. Then look into different treatments. There are at least two different types of ADHD. One is the inattentive type--"zoning out". Another is the hyperactive type. There's nothing evil about having ADHD. It means that you learn differently. People with dyslexia have a different learning style, also. Fortunately, we live in an age where there are all different kinds of medications and treatments available.
Another thing I'd suggest is taking frequent breaks. Every half hour, take a 5 minute break. Get up, use the bathroom, make a cup of tea, etc. Listening to music (instrumental--jazz or new age) helps me focus.

I know exactly what you mean... I have this problem alot, and it has nothing to do with being an idiot or being doomed to working at Micky D's for the rest of your life. For me, the stress gets to be so much that my brain shuts down and I can't concentrate on much of anything. I've found that allowing yourself and your mind to wander will help to get it out of your system. Do something that is generally relaxing and motivating like taking a long walk or sitting with some coffee just staring out the window until you feel like your mind is up to the task.

on that note, i'm about to brew myself a pot of tea and see if i cant get my paper done. good luck and hopefully we'll both get our work done :)

I know this sounds funny, but I would go to the most comfortable place (away from phones and distractions) and play my favorite music. Somehow it helped me focus, but it also had a calming effect. It made homework a lot less dull.

The only thing keeping you from studying or learning is you. If you're not interested or can't find something about your school subjects to keep your interest, then you're always going to find distractions.

I suggest you practice the line "Would you like fries with that?", it sounds like you're going to need it.

Think, what your life will become, people will call you a failure, friends will go to the next class, SO STOP YOUR SILLY EXCUSES AND GET DOWN TO STUDYING SERIOUSLY
