You have heard of mistreatment of slaves in "Uncles Tom Cabin". Then you have the people claiming the blacks were so much better off as slaves. Both were bull ****. The truth was some where in the middle. If you bought someone, say for 500,000 would you mistreat them? Of course, not what would happen to you the first time you turned your back? Sure, you'll be dead. I am not saying there was a big happy setting it just was not all whippings and cuffing. Even though it was against the law in many places many blacks could read, write and do math. Keep in mind blacks were looked on as being inferior to whites but at the same time people frown on people for mistreating their animals the same goes for their ill treatment of blacks. A slave would grow up only knowing their way of life; they would develop feelings for their owners. They saw their owners as their security blanket, food, a roof over their head the occasional handout, pat on their head; something that made them think you cared. In the South, many slave owners did develop feelings toward their slaves, but as I keep saying, do not get me wrong the slave owner could never afford to miss a chance to show dominance. Be it voice fluxation; tone; a trinket to win their affection or loyalty; punishment, think of the ways “you” show dominance over the geek or the new guy! Great question by the way! God Bless You and The Southern People.

slaves were treated differently in different times and societies. At time they were simply poeple whose works were rewarded by room and board rather than shelter (though they couldn't quit if they felt like it)
if your question is pertaining to slavery in america, the better question would be how weren't they treated like animals? they were bread like dogs, whipped like slave horses, and worked like mules. I can't think of any animals that are routinely raped but rape certainly isn't humane
I once read the diary of a Romanian who kept Gypsy slaves. he recounted how he had his slaves tingue cut out and fed it to the man because he had tried to buy his freedom. slavery wasn't always this gruesome but at other times it was far worst. i will never forget the account of a woman slave who lived in brazil. Her owner had her breast removed and he gave it to one of his friends as a gift. ( the friend had openly admired the women's unclothed breast)
When people are subject to senseless violence, when people are economically and sexually exploited, they are being robbed of their human rights. truthfully, they were treated worst than animals

The problem here is that animals don't think and possess logic, I don't condone animal abuse but at least they don't remember the wrong doing and cry and suffer like a human being would.

I had a dog that lived to be 17 - he had more experiences than some humans had - being an animal isn't so bad I guess.

Well, I usually make her wear a collar. And there is a significant amount of training involved, including various levels of pain and other punishment.

A good slave isn't worth much to her master without skillful training and careful breaking of her will.

I think your important question should be: "How are animals treated like slaves"

well one way is by no legal rights as a person.
no legal standing in court. the person is owned,
exactly like an animal, and there were no laws
against cruelty. so there is absolutely no recourse
for any treatment.
