My semester is finished on Dec. 15 (yay!). However, for the first time in my life, I'm looking at failing at least one class. I had some health issues and then my grandpa died this semester which has made it a very trying time. The class is my statistics class, and it's a GE. I have another test on Thursday that I know nothing about what we are going to be tested on. I already have a 65% in there. If I fail, obviously the grade goes lower. What I need help with--is do I just throw in the towel? I've never been a quitter, but I don't know what I can do to raise this grade in 2 weeks.

I have kept my professors in the loop as to what has been going on, and they have been fairly understanding. However, this particular professor seems to have lost patience in me, and I asked about extra credit and he said that there was not going to be any....

Explain to your prof. about what your going through. Ask him/her what you've been missing and get extra help. Study hard and read over notes and important materials from textbooks. Good luck!

Does your university offer the option to take an incomplete? If so, you can ask your professor if you can get an incomplete and take the test next semester.
Another option, is some universities allow you to take a class over if you get under a certain grade. So, if you get a D or F, you can opt to take the class again and get a better grade. Both grades will be on your transcripts, but your lower grade won't count towards your GPA.
I would also suggest talking to your counselor. You are not the first student to have gone through something like this. Life happens. So if you go to your counselor with an open mind on how to fix this, I'm sure she can help you figure it out.
Good luck!

I graduated college in 2004 and the same thing happen to me. I had some problems at work and then my grandmother passed away. I missed so much of one particular class that i just couldn't catch up. I stayed till the end, took the final and failed the class. But i took it again the next semester (on top of my already full class load). but it was actually a lot easier. A lot of the stuff was familiar and i tried a lot harder. I still graduated with a 3.8 because i had done well in all my other classes.
Just hang in there, study hard for the test. If you do all you can and still fail... so be it, you tried. take it again in January. If you pass.... you'll feel great.

I agree that cannabis, despite its health risks should be downgraded due to the benefits it can have on other medical problems. I think that devolving power over this to the EU though is silly and that the UK should decide if it should be downgraded or not. Just a note, if the EU has power over cannabis, the Holland would not be able to have its tolerant laws on the matter as other EU nations are not that forgiving of its use.

You need to talk to your professor. Any professor will give you slack if you explain your situation. Illness, funeral, etc. Some will even give you an Incomplete and let you take it over summer, etc. The teachers are alot more human and nicer than you think!
Good luck.
Also, talk to you advisor if you professor won't help you.

Talk to the teacher. Maybe you can get an extension of some kind. If not, look for a tutor to help you catchup in the class so you can maybe pull of a C in the class.

I would study my butt of and try to get the notes or probably study with fellow students to see how much work I can put in. When you're studying, if there is something you dont understand..email your teacher so he/she can explain it to you. The best advice I can give you is to study hard and dont give up...U seem like a smart girl!

I would recommend you talk to your teacher and tell him/her all you just told us, and I am sure that he would give you extra credit, or help you out.
