Yes, in filipino cultures we always take our shoes off when entering someones house. It's also a good idea to take your shoes off when the person has carpet.

I always take my shoes off in other people's houses. I have a shoes off rule in my house so I wouldn't want to wear shoes in their homes. The first thing I do when I arrive at someones house is offer to take off my shoes that way I can find out if it is a rule at their home or not.

Yeah, but I'll make sure that I have socks on, and that my feet are underneath a table. I've always preferred being barefoot, and when I was growing up, it was mandatory to remove shoes upon entering the house. Old habits die hard, I guess! And since I don't wanna appear rude, I'll hide the fact that I've taken my shoes off by hiding my feet under a table. Honestly, I can't help but take my shoes off; it's like an involuntary movement, like breathing or blinking!

Yes, I always take my shoes off in other people's homes, just out of habit. I go sock feet all the time in my house. I'm so used to it that it just feels wrong to wear shoes indoors.

If they are close friends, I usually do take my shoes off. If I don't know the people very well, I will leave my shoes on, until they tell me to take them off. You never know what people find acceptable, so it's best (I have found) to wait and err on the side of caution. :)

In tropical countries and in almost all cultures of people in the tropics, you MUST take off your shoes.
In Muslim houses you MUST take off your shoes. But if it is in a temperate climate, keep your socks on.
Otherwise you will drag all kinds of mud, poo, earth, silt, sand and everything else into the house EVEN if you wipe those shoes at the doormat. Not good enough.
Especially if it is doggy doo. Um-umh. No. no. no.

Depends on whether or not they prefer that you do. We do not wear our shoes in the house in our family, but I never ask people to take their shoes off, unless we know them well. Everyone is different.

YES! How rude does someone have to be to walk into someone else's house with their shoes on?! The carpet in my den in very light and shows everything!! (It was in the house when we bought it) I feel rude asking ppl. to take their shoes off, evidentally, they know better, but are too lazy to bend over and untie them! Nothing makes me madder. Have some respect, people! If you don't take your shoes off you either don't have your own home or you're filthy.

Yes, its the polite thing to do. I have been in a couple houses that were so filthy ....that wearing shoes could not hurt a thing...except getting my shoes dirty....better then getting my socks filthy. Actually its something my mother kind of taught us to do as kids, showing respect for someone else's home.
