My daughter starts all these really interesting real world assignments like learning the stock market or how the human body functions--complete with a 3-D model to build or reading unabridged great literature in elementary school and the teachers never follow through. Never following through--that is the only thing they are teaching her by doing this.

As with any profession, sometimes there are hindrances to completing a job. Sometimes other students cause so much trouble working on such assignments, that the teachers get disgusted and good kids like yours are pushed aside
( And, yes, there are teachers who lose interest in what they've assigned, or they are lazy. It is unprofessional. ) I suggest the next time your daughter gets a big assignment, you contact the teacher and ask what standard it meets, what is the purpose, when is it due and what per centage of her grade is it. Also, if this is a pattern of her teacher(s), speak to the teacher or the principal. Good luck.

Have you tried talking to the teacher? Speaking from an educator's point of view, it is possible that your daughter's teacher does not realize that she is not 'following through' with the assignments. Try speaking to her in a respectful manner, complimenting the ideas that she has and thanking her for coming up with these real world projects, and then ask her what her plans are for concluding the projects and assessing them. If you or one of your friends have a particular expertise in an area that would be used for a project, offer help. Don't be afraid to calmly discuss things like this with the teacher - she really is there to help your daughter. Please do not automatically assume that it is a result of laziness or not caring.

That is bad teaching...disorganization, forgetfulness. Teachers need to stay organized and on track. I think thye are all ambitious at the beginning of the year, then they get lazy and slack off, just like bad students do.
