A catalog will depend on what time frame the coin was minted. If it is newer, (last 500 years), then the Krause catalogs are ok. The standard reference for Islamic coins from the start of Islam to 1979 is Mitchiner's "Oriental Coins and Their Values, Volume 1, The World of Islam". This is an excellent book, (I own it), and it will run you about $120 if you are lucky, $170 if you aren't. For middle East coins before Islam, the standard reference is Mitchiner's, "Oriental Coins and Their Values, Vol 2, The Ancient and Classical World", (own it too). Unfortunately, you are lucky to buy this for $300, as it is VERY much in demand. You can always try to interlibrary loan this book from your library.

If you just have some 20th century coins from the middle east, the generic "World Coins" book from Krause is sometimes remaindered for as little as $10, and you can find it on Ebay. This is fine for a novice just looking at a few coins collected 30 years ago.

Also, a good website for coin books is:

http://www.coincoin.com/directory.htm

or

http://www.numislit.com

I do not believe Sanford Durst has a website

Krause/Mishler"s standard catalogs of World Coins has coins of the Middle East in them. There are 5 of them going from 1600 to 2007. The last one is dated 2007. There was a single book out there I think, but have not seen it advertised for some time. You can try Sanford J. Durst 106 Woodcleft ave. Freeport, NY. 11520-6161. 516-867-3333. I have not been able to find his website so he may not have one. He is a dealer in numismatic books from out of print to new ones, ancients to modern. He will have what you want.
