Definitely, "Life is beautiful" (Italy) by Roberto Benigni (he was both directing and starring). The plot is about a family who is carried to a Nazi concentration camp. There the father and the son are separated from the mother, and then the father (Benigni) has to make up a whole imaginary world for his little kid, making him believe that everything was a game, the forced work, the beatings, the guns, everything.
It was kind of funny too, but at the end it's sad of course. It's one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen.

Z. It was a French political surrealistic movie made in the 1960s. Truly weird, yet truly interesting. Some parts were so sad, it was hysterically funny.

"Open you eyes" Because it is the original version made in Spain of "Vanilla Sky" and if you know spanish, you don't mind thinking when watcing a movie or reading subtitles, it's so much better.

A funny French movie...I believe is spelled Amelie.
Funny , and very visual so you don't have to be tied to the subtitles the whole movie.
